Southeast Campus Extends Program Offerings to Address Market Need
As part of an ongoing effort to respond to the changing educational needs of its community, Prince Institute—Southeast has announced that it has added Professional Transcription to its curriculum.
John Wenclawski, President, Prince Institute, noted that the demand for credentialed professional transcriptionists is growing in several areas:
• Medical transcriptionists are in short supply, as over half are approaching retirement
• Legal transcription is expected to grow up to 17% before 2014
• New transcription opportunities are emerging, including media, podcast, and video applications
The new Professional Transcription program is a natural extension of the Prince Institute curriculum. Much of the same knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with court reporting apply to the Professional Transcription discipline:
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in keyboarding and word processing programs
• Knowledge of professional terms
“Prince Institute has a long history of preparing its students in the English language, keyboarding skills, and industry-standard technical skills,” said Patricia Hill, campus director at Prince Institute—Southeast. “Just as we use these techniques to develop court reporters and captioners, we can also apply them to professional transcription fields.”
The Professional Transcription program is ACICS-approved, and is offered on campus or online. Candidates can potentially earn an Associate Degree in 18 months.
Prince Institute has been training court reporters since 1976, and continues to expand its professional studies programs to meet the needs of today’s marketplace.
Stenograph, LLC has been the leading supplier to the court reporting industry since 1938. It has a rich history built on talented individuals who have maintained the company as the innovative manufacturer of quality shorthand machines and pioneered computer-aided transcription (CAT) software. It also provides professional services education through Prince Institute.
